Unos días después de las elecciones de mitad de período, cerca de 50 organizadores, defensores de políticas, abogados, periodistas, académicos y financiadores se unieron a nosotros en The Action Lab para discutir y debatir formas de utilizar cambios en políticas y reglamentos para construir organizaciones con una amplia base de miembros que puedan hacer frente al creciente poder oligárquico en los Estados Unidos...

Unos días después de las elecciones de mitad de período, cerca de 50 organizadores, defensores de políticas, abogados, periodistas, académicos y financiadores se unieron a nosotros en The Action Lab para discutir y debatir formas de utilizar cambios en políticas y reglamentos para construir organizaciones con una amplia base de miembros que puedan hacer frente al creciente poder oligárquico en los Estados Unidos.

¿Cuál es una forma sencilla de entender "oligarquía"? En el primer día del encuentro, Jamila Michener, profesora de la universidad Cornell, compartió esta manera sencilla de entender la oligarquía: "Cuando una clase dominante gobierna porque ha acumulado riqueza y moldea las instituciones políticas para mantener su riqueza y poder a expensas de los demás".

El momento actual requiere formas imaginativas no solo de frenar las amenazas planteadas por el creciente poder oligárquico de derecha, sino también de construir concretamente hacia un futuro liberador basado en el poder de las masas y la clase trabajadora. Exploramos condiciones y oportunidades que facilitarían la organización para derrotar el poder de los monopolios en tres áreas principales: construir sindicatos de inquilinos con amplia base social, enfrentar el poder de los monopolios y democratizar las estructuras electorales.

The Action Lab organizó este encuentro con Working Families (Familias Trabajadoras), Social and Economic Justice Leaders (Líderes de Justicia Social y Económica), NYU Community Power Initiative (Iniciativa de Poder Comunitario de NYU) y 22nd Century Initiative (Iniciativa del Siglo XXII), en colaboración con The Forge (La Forja) y The American Prospect (La Perspectiva Americana).
