The Action Lab recently acquired a space on the border of Ridgewood, Queens and Bushwick, Brooklyn to complement our Ossining retreat center, Bailey Farms. Our new NYC home will be a community hub that houses artistic studios and performance and exhibition venues, and an organizing training and strategy center. On Friday, October 25, we hosted a convening of friends, allies, partners, and supporters for a sneak peek of our plans for the space as well as our expanding programmatic offerings. The event was emceed by our Advisory Board Member Jesus Gonzalez and featured live musical performances by Nostalgia and live painting by Andre Trenier. The joyful occasion was a microcosm of the ways that we hope our building at 688 Woodward Avenue will serve as a spark for community building and connection. During the proceedings, we were joined by elected officials who have championed our work — including State Senators Julia Salazar and Michael Gianaris, City Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez as well Evelyn Cruz on behalf of Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez — and several of them provided ringing endorsements of our work and why they have supported us in building this next chapter.
