At Child Care Isn’t A Walk In The Park, NYC Council Member Sandy Nurse delivered a powerful message about the urgent need to invest in New York’s child care system and the workers who make it possible.

More than 25,000 children across New York City remain on child care waitlists, leaving families without access to affordable care while providers struggle to sustain their essential work.

Family Child Care providers are effectively earning wages that fail to reflect the value of the care they provide to children, families, and communities every day.

Advocates and providers are calling on New York State to strengthen the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) so every family can access affordable child care and to establish a $500 million workforce retention fund that would help child care workers earn a living wage.

Child care is the foundation that allows parents, caregivers, and entire communities to work, learn, and thrive. Investing in providers is an investment in New York’s future.

As organizers, providers, families, and elected officials continue pushing for change, the message remains clear: child care makes all work possible, and public budgets must reflect that reality.
