Thirty labor leaders, organizers and communications strategists gathered in Istanbul to learn from Turkish movements organizing under authoritarianism.

Delegation participants gathered on a rooftop in Istanbul, viewed from above.

From September 10–15, 2026, The Action Lab and Istanbul partner Postane brought together 30 labor leaders, organizers and communications strategists from the United States, Puerto Rico and South Africa.

Participants included Strong Economy for All, Organized Power in Numbers, Make the Road New York, New York Communities for Change, the AFL-CIO and the American Friends Service Committee. They met with scholars, labor organizers, immigrants’ rights leaders, communicators and culture workers to discuss democracy, labor and immigration under authoritarianism.

The delegation visited Açık Radyo, the Hrant Dink Foundation’s 23.5 Site of Memory and Müze Gazhane, a former gasworks transformed into public space through decades of community organizing. Workshops focused on organizing, hope-based communications and collective memory.
