John Forté

John Forté was a Grammy-nominated recording artist, filmmaker, writer and activist, first recognized for his work with multi-platinum hip hop group The Fugees. In 2001, he was arrested and convicted for a first-time, non-violent drug offense. He was sentenced to 14 years in a federal prison. He was granted executive clemency by President George W. Bush in 2008. As a solo artist, he released four studio albums, Poly Sci (1998), I, John (2002), Stylefree the EP (2009), and Water Light Sound (2011). His collaborators included Herbie Hancock, Wyclef Jean, Tricky, Carly Simon, and Talib Kweli. His work was also featured in the Sundance Film Festival, where he scored all of the opening festival trailers. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and briefly attended NYU.
