At the end of June, La Tejedora and a coalition of youth-led groups from across the Puerto Rican archipelago, launched a campaign called Prende Tu Voto (Ignite Your Vote), to encourage young people ages 18-35 to register to vote and participate in Puerto Rico's upcoming elections on Nov 5, 2024.

The event started with a dialogue between young people about the importance of voting, followed by the campaign launch and a concert, featuring Salinas-based rapper Hery con H and San Juan jazz duo Janice Maisonet and Patillazzz.

During the launch, coalition members emphasized the importance of youth voices in the electoral process in Puerto Rico, particularly since this generation has lived through the imposition of a Fiscal Control Board, Hurricane Maria, the ousting of former Governor Ricardo Roselló, earthquakes in 2019 and the pandemic. And throughout all of these crises, young people showed leadership and courage to continue to steer the country into its future. This generation believes that climate change is real and climate disasters are also political disasters; that the current government does not protect communities that are made vulnerable by our systems--including women, LGBTQIA+ people, black people and poor people and those in the intersections of these identities; and that we must have a government that reflects and prioritizes these communities and issues.
