Small Business United invites community members, neighborhood leaders, and independent business owners to join us for a rally and press conference marking the release of our new report, Empty Storefronts, High Rents.
The report examines how rising commercial rents and increasing storefront vacancies are reshaping New York City's neighborhoods, threatening the independent businesses that serve as economic engines, cultural landmarks, and gathering spaces for local communities.
During the event, business owners, coalition partners, and community advocates will call on city leaders to pass the Small Business Rent Stabilization Act, legislation designed to protect independently owned businesses from sudden and unsustainable rent increases while helping preserve vibrant neighborhood commercial corridors.
Independent businesses are essential to New York City's identity and local economy. As commercial rents continue to rise, many entrepreneurs face impossible choices between absorbing dramatic rent increases or closing their doors altogether. Small Business United believes communities deserve policies that allow locally owned businesses to remain rooted, create jobs, and continue serving future generations.
Join us in standing with small business owners as we advocate for fair commercial rent policies and stronger protections for neighborhood businesses across New York City.
