On October 5, Mayor Mamdani announced that New York City would move more than 10,000 children, from infants to age 13, off the waitlist for free child care vouchers.
The announcement followed more than a year of rallies, testimony and meetings led by Providers Organized for Power, the coalition of providers, parents and allies coordinated by The Action Lab.
With about 30,000 children on the waitlist that fall, the coalition continues to press New York State to fully fund the Child Care Assistance Program and ensure providers are paid fairly.
