The Action Lab convened more than 20 community groups and businesses to organize against displacement caused by commercial rent increases.

On September 25, The Action Lab convened more than 20 New York community groups and businesses to launch a coalition for policies that protect commercial tenants from displacement.

Unpredictable rent increases, short leases and uncertain renewals make it harder for small businesses to hire, invest and remain in their neighborhoods. The coalition brings local businesses and cultural venues together with community, legal and business-support organizations.

Participants include Jimmy’s Corner, Terraza 7, Pearl River Mart, Churches United For Fair Housing, Chhaya CDC, Cooper Square Committee, the Legal Aid Society and New York Communities for Change.
