Highlights
Beyond the Block
In collaboration with our partners at Hudson Link, a provider of educational programs for correctional facility residents in New York, including Sing Sing near our Ossining Center, The Action Lab co-hosted the inaugural Beyond the Block event at Sing Sing, a celebration of community both inside and beyond prison walls, showcasing the creative talents of the facility's residents through song, poetry, and spoken word. The powerful narratives performed with deep emotion and intimacy reflected the diverse stories within the prison community. Aloe Blacc, our Belafonte Fellow, added a special touch by participating in rehearsals with the Sing Sing men's choir and delivering a moving rendition of "Swing Dat Hammer" at the event.

Annual Concert
Much like our Belafonte Fellowship program, our annual anniversary concert has become a celebration of Mr. Belafonte and the power of the arts and culture in social justice organizing and community building. Our hosts and partners at New York City’s City Winery have hosted the event for both of the past two years, featuring not only Belafonte Fellows Aloe Blacc and Ana Tijoux, but also FELA aKUsTIc, John Forte, Wyclef Jean and DJ Madame Vacile. These programs have become nights to remember and an event that moves us all to deeper fellowship, action, and power.
